!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I got my studio!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After about 2 years of looking at house after house, learning about category 1, 2, and 3 houses, short sales, forclosures, finding out how to lookup whether a house was one of those, and finding tish reports, waiting 6 months for 1 short sale, 2 for another, 3 houses getting to the last week before the fell apart, 2 mortgage companies I will never work with again... the worst being wells fargo... I FINALLY got a house!!!! Now if you need any referrals for realtors, mortgage company or inspection guys let me know!

I'm in the works of finishing up my studio, hopefully will be done by the end of the month before my vacation. :)

With the new studio I also plan on putting together new prices and packages for weddings, for the couples on a tight budget up to the I have a money tree in my backyard couples. I found a new album company that looks amazing, so Ill be putting together new sample albums :) Ill finally be able to show my work and example of all the products I sell since Ill have my awesome awesome studio. I will be getting a new blog, new online proofing, and accepting credit cards!!!

February savings!!

Ok I have come to the conclusion I need to blog a bit more, I think it may be that I'm not a fan of 'blogger' I need to find a better site!

Since February is the month of love I thought it would be fitting to give all you love birds getting married a chance to save $500...yes, $500 off of my wedding package!!

In order to save, all you have to do is turn in a signed contract and deposit in the month of Feb. Thats it, no strings attached!!

So lets get this whole wedding photographer taken off your list of 'to do's' and save a load of money you can use for your honeymoon!

Baby Destinee

I was excited to hear from Destinee's mom again to do her 1 year photos. I did her 3 month photos earlier this year and she was SO cute. It was hard to edit them down to how many I did, and again this time, it was too hard, so they will have more than enough photos to choose from. The apple orchard we went to had a little spot that was perfect for photos, with a box of apples and a ladder. And I know its not video, but I was able to capture the furthest she was walked so far (as of last week), I'm sure shes flying through the house by now. Hope you enjoyed your apples!

Skipping ahead a bit

I have many posts I have to blog yet, but I figured this one should go up right away :)

My sister got married last Saturday, well, at 1st, she asked me to be in the wedding, then asked to photograph it, then both, told her she had to choose. Well I ended up being her photographer! To me, I am more honored to be able to photograph my friends and families weddings than to be in them. The people in the wedding are like most things in a wedding, they last one day (well not true, they help out beforehand) Photographs are one of the only things you will have your whole life, and to be able capture all of those is the most amazing part to me.

Thank you Nancy for letting me be one of the most important parts of your day!!

Can you say...PERFECTION?!?! 1st, the weather was amazing. Overcast skies, not too hot (compared to other weekends) These two are such a gorgeous couple, that and their amazing personality, it was a pretty easy wedding to shoot! I also spoiled myself and had 2 assistants/shooters, now I have way too many photos ;)

Very early wedding, we decided to drive up the night before so we didn't get stuck in construction. Don't even ask about the drive back... took one way to avoid 94, that road ended up being closed too. Good times.

And I was wondering where June went, July is almost over! I actually had 2 weeks off from weddings. It was a nice break. Lat weekend I got to work with Jen again, Fri we went out for a shoot, then a wedding Sat, and yes it rained! I have had 2 weddings (out of 8) this year with no rain. Along with all the road construction, this year is not a fun wedding season.

We went downtown St. Paul, and to another spot near the St. Paul airport with these guys, got some awesome sunset shots!

This last month just flew by! I am officially not liking June weddings, only 1 out of the 5 that I shot were rain-free. My whole marketing stuff is taking a bit longer than I wanted, did just finish my wedding booklet, just have to send it in to get printed. Working on my print price brochure now. Also just came up with another wedding idea, I'm going to have an option where my clients can choose my assistant, which will cost a bit more, but that way it will be worth it to them to hold that date to assist me since I will be able to pay them a lot more :)

I got to shoot with my favorite photographer last weekend, sorry all you other photogs :/ but Jen is awesome! http://sievekingblog.com/ Shes moving away this fall though :( The rain held out most of the day, lucky for us! The 12 hour day (14 counting the driving time) was well worth it. Images turned out amazing! Here are a few :)

Getting caught up!

Trying to get caught up on editing before the weddings start, which is tomorrow... getting some done :) Also getting tired. It has been a very long week, 2 engagements, 1 kid shoot (below) then Perkins. Everyday after work I would come home, exhausted, and bum out on the couch and watch tv. Nice to be able to do, but doesn't help get caught up. I'm still working on all my marketing stuff too, Got a few things in the mail, but I still have a lot of work, making another brochure, a little booklet/magazine, referral cards, rack sheet, sales sheets, its never ending! It will be amazing once its all put together though. Speaking of that, I will be raising my prices, photo sessions, only by $10, but weddings, my packages will start out at $2,500. When looking at other photographers who have they same skill and similar images, they are a whole lot more than what I charge. And for all that I have spend and still spending on all the high-end equipment, good lenses are not cheap. And yes, you can tell the difference between a $100 lens and a $2,000 lens. I also am starting to get a lot more business expenses, I don't think people really think about what all goes into photography, for those who are doing it as a career, not a hobby. Lets say a wedding. Yes, you usually have me for about 8 hours on your day, BUT... thats not all I have to do. Starting with emails, phone calls, meetings, then charging batteries, making sure all my equipment is working, getting addresses, timelines, thats just before your day, then, I arrive early, scope out spots, shoot your wedding, afterwards it takes a couple hours just to upload all your images, a few more to sort and edit down, then it can take a full work week just to edit. Then I have to put together orders, which involves cropping and sending it in. Remember, your not just paying for the hours I'm at your wedding. With all that being said, I think I need a break. My eyes are starting to hurt.

Becky and Bill, what a fun couple! I think they have the best proposal story out of all the couples I have met with, and there has been plenty. Bill bought the ring and put it in one of her favorite artist's CD album. He was able to shrink wrap it back up where he works so it looked like a brand new unopened CD. So he gave her the CD, she opened it, Surprise! And of course when she saw it she said yes.

These two are too easy behind the camera. Makes my job a whole lot easier! Between Jim Carrey and Bills sniffles, they made for a very good shoot :)

Oh my! I'm finally starting to book shoots more steadily, booking more of my own weddings. Feels like everything is starting to fall in place. Just need.....my studio. Were still waiting on the banks approval on the lowered price, its a short sale. I'm glad I've been busy, otherwise waiting might make me go crazy. Between my own weddings, Bellagala weddings, and assisting other photogs for weddings, I think I have 3 or 4 weekends free from may 22nd-oct 30th.

One nice thing about working at Bellagala, I get to meet a ton of other photographers. Always nice when you need some help. I've helped Laurie with a couple of her own weddings, love working with her! The bride and groom were very nice, luckily the rain held back that day so we got to go out for a few photos. Heres a couple from their day!

Senior session

Looking outside all day at work, I noticed that the clouds weren't going away, hoping it wouldn't rain because I had this shoot today. Co-workers said it would rain right at 4.... and guess what. 3:50ish, rain. As I was waiting for her I was just looking outside, at the rain, hoping it would go away. Well... just before she arrived, it stopped, the sun even came out for a bit!! As I was driving home it started raining again. We got lucky!

She had a 13 week old lab puppy with her, Chance. Cute name, cuter puppy. And we did get some good ones of him looking. Makes me want another puppy. Which I know would be a bad idea, 2 is enough.

Beer Expo

1st post since New Zealand. Been busy trying to catch up on all my phone calls/emails/letters, and now editing. Its been a good couple weeks, booked a couple weddings, and a couple photo shoots and events. I was able to shoot a beer expo last week. People drinking usually means happy smiling people, made my job that much easier. You don't know how frustrating it is shooting candids when no one is laughing or smiling. Heres a few from the shoot!

Timaru

Its our last full day here. Sort of packing a bit so we don’t have to do it all tomorrow.

The bluff in Invercargill would be amazing to shoot engagements or seniors. Theres a ton of very old houses and buildings that were falling apart, a couple old shipwrecked ships. Other than that there wasn’t much to see. On our drive to the next city we did stop at the waterfall, and yes it was pretty amazing. We stopped at one place where there usually are sea lions, no luck, but the next spot we tried there were quite a few there. There was a lonely old guy by himself on our way back to the car, had the number 169 imprinted on him.

We went to Dunedin yesterday, it’s a pretty big city, they even had a divided highway! The only other one was in Wellington. The Cadbury chocolate factory is there so we went on a tour today and got lots of chocolates. I wish they sold a chocolate bar I bought in the states, its AMAZING! Now we are in timaru, sp? We leave tomorrow at 4:30, Friday. Then arrive in MN at 11:30 Friday. Pretty short flight back ay, Ha I am ready to travel back in time.

We have had steak almost every night here, their steak here is the best steak I have eaten. We’ve been buying cheap steak too. Were eating our last ones tomorrow for breakfast, SO good. I finally got my oysters! Got them on the bluff, called bluff oysters, we bought 2 dozen and Aaron didn’t like them. Only 6 more to go and they will be gone.

Invercargill

I think it must rain a lot in this city. When Aaron told the lady at the gas station where we were going, she said, why would you go there? All you’ll see is rain. I think were going down to the ‘bluff’ then off to Dunedin. Were going to try to make it to a Cadbury chocolate factory tour, yum. Theres also a cave along the way we can go to if the tide is low, and another waterfall that’s supposed to be pretty amazing. Theres also places along the way that you might be able to see sea lions, seals and penguins. Were going to start packing up to leave though so that’s it for now!

Didnt go horseback riding, sometime though. We went to greymouth, we didnt do too much, we went to buy some cheese and crackers only to remember it was easter, the grocery store closed early, we went to a small store, could only find cheapo cheese and weird crackers. We sat on the beach drinking our wine, eating cheese nip like crackers. We had a long drive yesterday, but we went to Fox Glacier, it was a bit rainy but we walked there anyways. We werent able to actually go on it like I hoped, but we got close. Stopped at a waterfall too. Ill upload those photos later though, it takes a while to upload and resize, and its prime doing stuff time right now :) Were in Wanaka, its in the mountains, very pretty. We drove past a bunch of lakes last night that I want to go back to today for photos. Those are the photos that I wanted to get here, but it was too dark last night. Then we are off to invercargill, on the south side of the south island. Oh and we got the house inspected, and happy to say were still getting it!! I think our closing date should be April 23rd. A day before my 1st wedding of the season, at least Ill have extra money to fix it up!

Plans changed a tad bit, we were going to stay in wellington then take the ferry over in the morning, but we had to be in Motueka at noon for skydiving, so we took the ferry that night and drove to Nelson.

Yesterday was an eventful day. In the morning there were tons of old beetles and VW wagons driving around, so aaron followed them and they all were parking by some park, we walked around looking at them for a bit, then it was off to Skydiving! I thought I would get nervous once the door opened for me to jump, but I wasn’t. It went way too fast, but was amazing. Then we went to a winery and tried a bunch of wines and had a little sampler plate of bread, crackers and cheeses. I actually found 2 wines that I like! Then we went on a walk to the beach, the tide was low which I think was pretty cool, there were huge trees just in the middle of the ocean. Then we came back to our site and sat in the hot tub for a bit. Hopefully today we’ll go horseback riding :)

Oh! I forgot to mention last time, we have a signed purchase agreement for the house!! Now we’re just getting it inspected and all that good stuff. My realtors are awesome. Please use them if you’re buying a house :)

Ok where did I leave off…

The lord of the rings tour was pretty cool, they are rebuilding for a new movie or something. Those people who own that must be rich, $60 per person on for the tour, that runs a few times a day. I think there were 10 or 12 people with us. We met some other people from Minnesota there too. Crazy.

We got up to Ohope beach as the sun was setting, got out for some photos and got trapped in the ocean, ok not trapped, but the waves came out a whole lot further than they were, and I was still wearing my shoes. We were going to go horse back riding, or what they call here horse trekking, but when we got there there was no one there, I think we were supposed to call before we went. This is after driving on a tiny dirt road up in the mountains for a few miles. After we went to the oyster farm I heard about. No oysters. WHAT? An oyster farm with no oysters? The guy said they weren’t fed enough. Staving oysters ay…

Well now we are in I think its ohakune. Its pretty up here, right by a huge mountain. We went on a walk yesterday just before the sun was setting, of course, got some more photos. Were now going to wellington, then crossing over to the south island again. We are going skydiving….TOMORROW! I think, I have to double check our reservations.

Finally resting!

Yesterday felt like it went on forever. We got in line for the Ferry around 12:00, which didn’t leave till 1:20. After the 3 hour ride we finally got to Wellington. We went to the canon dealership, they would have had to ship it to Auckland, and since it’s a holiday weekend it probably wouldn’t be back till next tues, so Aaron doesn’t have a camera :/. Then we started our drive to I still can’t remember the name, stopped at some rest area to make lunch and take some photos. Then it was still another 3 hour drive to the park we stayed at. Didn’t get there till 8:30, did some dishes and went to bed. It was another 3 hour drive today to Rotorua, the place that made me want to drive up to the north Island. We stopped a few places along the way for photos and lunch. When we got here we went to this park that has thermal pools and bubbling mud pools, I could spend HOURS there just taking photos, every photo is something different. Got some awesome photos of the mud, the reason I came. Just had steak, yum, and now relaxing. Going to go down to the beach and sit, drink some bubbly and perharps watch the sunset.

Off to some Lord of the Rings tour tomorrow.

I was going to mention earlier… I’m editing all these photos on my laptop, which isn’t calibrated, and I’m pretty sure the screen is too bright so if my photos are dark, I apologize. I will also clean my sensor today, its pretty bad.

I probably wont be posting this till tomorrow, internet is $2-$7 an hour over here!

Gross gherkins

Its finally a bit nicer out again :) still cloudy but you can at least see the blue sky behind the clouds. Were in Picton right now, going on the ferry today then up to a city that starts with a W, I can’t remember any of these cities, and when people ask where we’re going now they probably laugh at us for trying to pronounce them.

So yesterday was an eventful day…
We finally got to go swimming with dolphins, it was fun, after about 30 mins of trying to locate them we found some and went out, went to a few different places and finally the dolphins stayed by us. On the way back I lost my breakfast, even after taking motion sickness medicine. Realized I left my 2 bottles of motion sickness meds that I bought for here back home. The day before a guy told us about a seal colony that wasn’t too far away, that you could basicly walk right up to them, so we went there and he was right! They were right there. Got some amazing photos of those guys, extreamly close up. In picton we went on a small scenic drive, there was a pretty cool spot where the ferry goes out of.
Now for the dreaded news…Got an error 99 on one of my cameras… for all you non camera people, that’s very bad. Had it happen to both my cameras already while shooting weddings. The mirror locked up. I looked up camera places here and it looks like there is a canon dealership that might do repairs in Wellington, we are driving through it today, and staying there for a night when we make our trip back to the south island. So hopefully they do do repairs and I could drop it off today and pick it back up in a few days.
Some more strange things here:
Eggs are not refrigerated, they are on normal shelves at the store.
Oatmeal is not oatmeal, I think its called porrage here. We bought what looked like oatmeal, but it doesn’t get creamy.

Day 2

We were going to go swimming with dolphins today but it was too windy. Were attempting to do it tomrrow, which I think will be better if we make it out because its mine and Aarons 1 year anniversary! Also planning on going down by some beach walk where theres a bunch of seals hanging around. Today was colder than yesterday, rained a bit while we were driving.

WERE HERE!!!!

The plane ride wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be, slept through most of it. I think I would travel to New Zealand again just to go on the plane. Their food was AMAZING, everyone has their one TV with tons of movies to watch (Jenny ours we could pause and rewind and all that). Now driving… they drive on the opposite side of the road, it’s interesting… I think Aaron has hit the windshield wipers more times than I can count. The turn signals are on the other side of the wheel. I think he’s getting the hang of it though. Sprint lied to us, they said our phones were compatible in New Zealand to get internet, nope! So we will only have internet and email maybe once a day or two, depending on if we want to pay for it every day. Aarons GPS isn’t working how its supposed to also. We did make it to Akaroa pretty much without a map though. We got a spot with an amazing view. We walked down to the water for some photos, walking back was a looong trip uphill. Still getting used to the time, I think if I was a normal person and didn’t wake up at 6AM back home I would be fine. I now wake up at 3ish in the morning. We were going to go swimming with the dolphins this morning but its way too windy so it was canceled. Theres plenty of spots to swim with dolphins around the country so were going to try again. Here are just a few photos I took so far.

For all of you whoknow how much I love pickles... I am VERY dissapointed. We asked where the pickles were in the grocery store...the person said, pickled onions? I guess they are called gherkins here and thy are gross! we bought 2 different kinds, of the maybe 8 they had. BOO!

Well its finally the day! Our flight leaves at 2:30, and we will arrive at 8:10 on Friday, hopefully it won't be too hard to adjust since its almost a full day difference. Heres all the places were going to stay at:

Last shoot before New Zealand!

I was able to hang out with another amazing photographer today who decided to move to Iowa, and soon moving to Tennessee, darn you Jen.... She was back in the cities for a family shoot and asked if I wanted to come along, of course I said yes :) Oh why did you have to move away??

Kate was a blast! She wasn't fussy at all, which was pretty amazing since we were taking photos for over an hour. Here are a few from today, didn't think I would get to them before I left. Heres to my last shoot before my trip!!

New computer

I bought a new computer last week, and finally got to use it with editing! I wish I would have bought this earlier. Oh my it is VERY fast!!! I love it.

I got to photograph an old co-workers 6 month old boy yesterday, apparently he just found his tongue the day before, it was fun to watch him, mouth wide open and tongue going crazy.

Looked at some houses yesterday, I looked at one I already looked at a while ago. I have no idea why I didn't like it before, must have been the price, well now..I LOVE it. Its very close to my house and bigger than the last house, and did I mention cheaper now? Just waiting on the paperwork to be done so I can sign and send the offer. I guess the agent we were dealing with at the other house was fired, the new guy came in and was wondering what was going on and said he would give me another chance on that house since the other lady was crazy. Too late!

So I've been editing this MN renewable energy society event I shot a couple weeks ago, haven't had to edit this many photos in a long time. My computer needs upgrading, as in a new one. I can't even keep Bridge open without it saying 'bridge is running on too low of memory and needs to shut down' Not fun I say. Heres a few from that event :)

Ok just kidding, no photos yet. Thats another problem I'm having with my computer. The internet decides when it wants to work. Usually works when I don't have photoshop open, but still won't let me upload any photos. :/

Studio

I got some news I didn't want Friday. The house isn't going to happen. It sounds like some mistakes were made and Aaron's income wasn't even being included in 'our' income. It wasn't my 1st choice for a studio, but the price was right and it had a huge backyard, and I also spend a lot on the inspection and appraisals. I have found some other houses I want to look at, and maybe even some commercial property. Hopefully this next time won't drag out over 4 months. We also have a bit more for down payment, closing and all that good stuff, so we can spend a little bit more. I think I want to use a different morgage company too, I loved the lady we met with, but her underwriter people were driving me crazy. Every day, I would get 1 or 2 emails with more stuff they needed. Needed written statements on some rent check deposits, to make sure they were from them, they needed a written statement on how I make tips at Perkins, and that I bring home cash everyday. They needed every paycheck stub and bank statement going back to Oct, every deposit needed to be documented on what was in it. You would also think they would get all of this a long time ago, not a few days before closing.

So, no studio yet. Hopefully I'll find one soon through.

Staying busy

Last Friday was very busy. Worked my day job from 7-12 then shot an event from 2-4, had a baby shoot at 5 (below) then back to the event from 7-10. Craziness!

I decided I'm going to advertise on theknot.com a little pricey, but it should be worth it. Also hiring my little brother to put together some mailing lists for me, he needs a job ;)

I haven't edited the event from Friday, but started on the baby shoot, shes such a cutie.

Climb for a Cure for Cystic Fibrosis

Just got back from the Climb for a Cure for Cystic Fibrosis event. Had lots of fun, like every year there are tons of people who came to walk up all 50 floors of the IDS tower. This year I was lucky enough to be asked to shoot it. I am going to post all of the photos once I go through and edit them on the "view your event" spot on the main page (right next to this blog button) You will be able to purchase the photos, and I will be donating all my profit to the CFF. I'll mention it again here too that I am donating 50% of all my prints in the "Prints For Sale" gallery to the CFF, all year long. Thanks again for everyone who climbed!! Lets hope they find a cure soon!

New blog site :)

I did not like my blog site, too many ads and not my style. So I got a new one :)

Lots happening lately! I've booked 5 weddings in the last week and was asked to shoot the Climb for a Cure for Cystic Fibrosis event next sat at the IDS tower! I am thrilled! As some of you know, both my sisters have Cystic Fibrosis, so I want to do more to help with this fundraiser. I am still selling prints with 100% of the purchase price going towards this climb till Feb 5th. After I am still going to donate half of the purchase price of all prints in my 'prints for sale' gallery to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. I'm also trying to get more involved with the events around here, I volunteered at the 2009 Breath of Life Gala, and plan on helping out as much as I can in the future.

Along with all the craziness of the last week, I am also just about to close on my house I'm turning into my studio! We are set to close Feb 5th. Hopefully will be all fixed up before we go to New Zealand in the end of March so I can start shooting as soon as we come back.

I also now accept credit cards! I've been looking around for a while and finally set up an account.

With all that said, I should be getting back to work.

I'm selling prints to help raise money for the Climb for a Cure for Cystic Fibrosis.Through Feb 5th, EVERY penny of the purchase price (even my cost) will go towards my goal of $1,000 this year. Got the chance to photograph a 9 day old baby yesterday! Very exciting! Shes SUCH a cutie. We tried for the baby in a diaper on the rug photo but she did not like being out of her warm clothes. I finally got to use my vintage baby scale too :) Hope you get some more sleep soon Jen!

Figured I should start my own blog :) Lets start out with some info about me. My names Jamie Abraham, as you can probably tell I LOVE photography. I'm currently looking for a second house to use as my studio. I'm getting tired. At least I'm not getting excited over the ones I love anymore so when they don't work out I don't mind. I'm excited yet sad that wedding season is just about over for me. I'll finally have my weekends back! I don't know what I'll do with my time. Heres a few photos from my last kid shoot. :) Enjoy!
